I am a Caribbean artist of African descent, born in Barbados. As an artist I am self-taught. I work in several mediums of watercolour, acrylics, oils, oil pastels, ink, Barbados mahogany, Barbados clay, and fabric. These give me the chance to express myself as I see fit.

Being intuitive, I first started drawing the things around me in pencil for several years. As a result of wanting to do more in colour, I started to paint in watercolours, ink, acrylics and then oils. In trying new mediums I was also changing my style, moving from realism to abstraction and surrealism.

I have found joy not only in the use of colour, but also in reflecting the beauty in line, tone, texture, balance and harmony in two- and three-dimensional space.

I enjoy the process of preparing canvas, and when painting indoors I work under the influence of music which helps me to relax, concentrate, and puts me in a spontaneous and creative mood to capture the pulse of the subject I am working on.

I work outdoors at times capturing the lovely scenes around me on the island.

Living in the Caribbean on an island with a small population and a small number of buyers as compared to larger countries can be complex and challenging when you are bursting with ideas. Thanks to the internet I am now able to reach a larger audience. Being creative in a technological age, I have found it to be precious being able to create new ideas in this changing mind space.
